Double the luminous flux! LumiLeds and NASA-related companies develop human-factor lighting products

2022-03-08

According to reports, LumiLeds' new LUXEON LED is equipped with SkyBlue® Circadian circadian rhythm technology from Biological Innovations and Optimization Systems, LLC (BIOS), a human factors lighting innovation company, to solve the difficulties of human factors lighting technology.

Reports indicate that LumiLeds has partnered with BIOS to develop a new SkyBlue® LED that doubles the performance of the product. The SkyBlue® LED is a mid-power 3030 LED product that greatly reduces the lumen/dollar development hurdle faced by luminaire manufacturers and addresses a key pain point. In the future, LumiLeds will bring better and healthier lighting solutions to the market.

BIOS is a spin-off from NASA, combining years of biological expertise and technology originally developed for the International Space Station, to focus on the human factors and horticultural lighting markets.

In the field of anthropogenic lighting, BIOS has developed SkyBlue® Circadian circadian rhythm technology related to the human eye's non-visual photoreceptors using NASA-sourced science and technology.

LumiLeds developers have designed this new LUXEON LED in conjunction with BIOS' proprietary SkyBlue® Circadian technology. During the day, SkyBlue enhances one's circadian rhythm regulation, increases vigilance and concentration, and improves mood. At night, SkyBlue creates a warmer ambience and promotes natural melatonin production to improve nighttime sleep quality.

By partnering with BIOS, LumiLeds said the company can provide design, phosphor, manufacturing and solutions expertise to the human factors lighting ecosystem. Currently, the luminous flux of the 3030 package has been doubled, and the system performance has increased from 110 lumens per watt to 160 lumens per watt.

According to LumiLeds, the human-induced lighting market is expanding, products will be more abundant in the future, and consumers will have more choices. At the same time, end-user costs will be gradually reduced, production efficiency will increase, and products will better improve users' physical, psychological and emotional health, thereby improving sleep quality.
